What if...? Scenarios

Urban - Car Free Future

What would happen if you removed all the cars/what would need to happen?
-Massive government investment in mass public transport
-Walking and bicycle paths to be expanded
-Bicycle highways and change of city car parks to bicycle parking facilities
-Densify the city (highrise living)
    - everything needs to be within walking distance or needs to be walking distance to/from a public transport hub.
-Longer trading hours of retailers
-Retailers would expand into online retail (if not already)
-Courier Services would boom as retailers begin to rely on them for deliveries of goods (ie. groceries)
-Satelite cities of high density connected via mass public transport corridors

What happens to the roads?
-Become green corridors
-Bicycle highways and expand foot paths
-Public Transport corridors (if not underground)

Possible Scenarios:
City congrestion tax
  -Pros
-Forces less cars to use city roads
-Promotes the use of public transport and sustainable personal transport (bicycles)
-Reduces the carbon footprint of the city
  -Cons
-The problem is just forced further away from the city centre ie.the congestion will move from the CBD to the outskirts of the congestion tax area
-Doesnt remove the problem just moves it to a different location
-need to offer alternatives for people that cant use public transport to get to work/home etc.

Removal of cars and addition of personal transport pods
(similar to Will Smith's iRobot Movie)
-Pods big-enough to sit 4 people replace cars on the roads and run on a network of tram type lines
-Passengers request a pod, pod arrives, passenger hops in and enters into a GPS type unit their destination. the pod uses a computer to deliver the passenger to their destination.
-Cons - The loss of the ability to just go for a drive and driving for leasure

Teleportation Invented
Advanced technology involving super heated plasma and telecommunication swystems allows people and object to be teleported from anywhere to any where.
Train and public transport hubs converted into 'Teleport Hubs' and effectively work just as public transport does. Travel from destination 1 to 2 is instant and immediatley increasing the productivity of business and services ten fold.
The steets are converted into green corridiors with bike and foot paths for travelling short distances. Thus reducing carbon foot prints of a city.

Rural - 'Self Sufficient' Managed and Operated

Possible Scenarios:
Global market Crash
Currenecy becomes worthless > Physical Goods and Services become the currency and used for trade > Communities/villages/cities forced to become 'Self Sufficient' > Development of single global Currency - Earth Dollars. Not sure what next

Communist/ closed gate style community
Every member of the community provides a service in return for good and servies provided by other community members, no physical currency carried. Excess goods produced such as crops that are sold by the governing body to external retailers for good and services that the community is unable to provide for it self.
Similar to that of medievil villages or the tradional Japanese villages that produced enough for themselves and then onsold surplus to the big cities.

Virtual - Resolving large scale issues virtually

"What is the next level?" ... "Think of the 'im-material' " -Tutor

Possible Scenarios:
Banking Scenario
 > Once upon a time you had to attend the bank to manage your money > Internet Banking >(Next Level) One international Currency > Time becomes a commodity > Time becomes the currency > Time is earnt through work and trade > advances in modern medicine and a revolution mean that people can live forever, knowing that this is unsustainable governments move to make the amount of 'Time' you have your life span. Therefore a good business man could live forever. and thus poor businessmen and 'slack workers' weened out.

I call this futuristic natural selection.
