Archigram - Beyond architecture
Apart from being an incredibly wordy reading I thought it was quite interesting, especially in the fact that it most of the refferences to Archigram and the designs that are discussed can from the 1950's 60's and 70's.
One section that grabbed my attention was the 'FROM KIT TO SKIN' section. It talked about modular designs that "concentrated (on) consumer durable kits that were self contained. transportable, interchangeable, and expandable." (Sadler, Simon (01/01/2005). Archigram : architecture without architecture, pg107)
Another interesting quote was from Cedric Price who stated that "the point was to design complete units capable of reorganisation, carried by the whim of the owner operator." (Sadler, Simon (01/01/2005). Archigram : architecture without architecture, pg107)
What I'd like to take from this and incorporate into a design concept:
"Vision of the works-straight-out-of-the-box, selfcontained architectural uni, the mass produced 'capsule' or 'pod'. As with flowers in a bowl; caravans to a site." (Sadler, Simon (01/01/2005). Archigram : architecture without architecture, pg107)
Additionally the Monsanto House at Disneyland (1954-1957) was kind of interesting too. I think it was pretty amazing how close the design of the house was to some of the houses you can see today, both in terms of overall design and the interior fit out.
